Mountain District Learning Centre Youth Programs

VCAL – Foundation (Year 10), Intermediate (Year 11), Senior (Year 12). (80 students)

Our VCAL program caters for young people who have experienced difficulty in the mainstream system. They may have been expelled or had behavioural difficulties. We have students in our year 10 program from local secondary schools who do not offer VCAL at year 10 level, only for years 11 and 12. Some students pathway back to their home schools after year 10.

VCE - Year 11 and 12 for youth and for adults. (12 – 20 students)

VCE caters for students who typically left school before they completed VCE and want to return to finish it at an older age. Sometimes we have VCE students who need a more nurturing environment and smaller classes. Some of our VCE students have experiences of depression/anxiety or similar which interfered with completing whilst at school. Some of our VCE students are adults who are re-starting their education after working for a number of years.

The Cottage Program: (10 students)

Running through CGEA, this program is a re-engagement program for young people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Social Anxiety. It runs for 3 days per week and is separate from the VCAL program as these students need a quiet and relaxed environment. The aim of this program is to re-connect students with learning and with socialising opportunities and works to build student’s confidence. Some of the students in this program have been school refusers in the mainstream system. We deliver a lot of art in this program and it includes lunch activities.
